Introduction to Pacific Collections resource

The Introduction to Pacific Collections is a resource for anyone interested in working with material culture from the Pacific.

The resource provides information on collections care, hazards, identification and cultural considerations applicable to all Pacific material. There is a bibliography of relevant texts and suggested online resources and useful networks. Introductions to specific cultural areas relate to material most likely to be found in Scottish museum collections. This was informed by the detailed collections review at the four project partner museums and by visits to other Pacific collections in Scotland. There are also summaries of some less commonly seen but distinctive cultural styles.

The information in this resource was compiled by Eve Haddow, the project curator for the Pacific Collections in Scottish Museums: Unlocking their knowledge and potential. It reflects the knowledge and skills developed over the course of project. It was a key aim to develop and implement a new method for collections knowledge transfer between a new curator, current collections staff and subject experts.
