Did you know that National Museums Scotland holds the collection and archive of internationally renowned fashion designer Jean Muir (1928 – 1995)?  

At this exclusive Member event, discover how the work of Muir and her peers celebrated individuality, identity and innovation during a pivotal moment of activism and liberation in late 20th century Britain. 

Georgina Ripley, Principal Curator of Modern and Contemporary Design, and Lisa Mason, Assistant Curator of Modern and Contemporary Design, will discuss how Muir established her eponymous ready-to-wear label in London in 1966 and became renowned for precision tailoring, fluid silhouettes, and luxurious textiles. 

Drawing upon objects from the museum’s extensive collection, this event will explore Muir’s unique vision and innovative design approach, as well as her connections to the worlds of art, theatre and celebrity.
