About Monkeys After Dark: Families
Enjoy after-hours access to Monkeys: Our Primate Family. This family session will include taster talks, hands-on activities and more.
Mini Monkey Talks
Time: 17:45 - 18:00 and 18:30 - 18:45
Location: Auditorium, Level 1
Grab a seat in the Auditorium and hear from our primate experts.
Very Important Primate Craft
Time: 17:30 - 19:30
Location: Collecting Stories, Level 1
Swing past our craft tables and design your own VIP badge inspired by the exhibition.
Monkey Masquerade
Time: judging begins at 19:00
Location: Auditorium, Level 1
Get creative and come along in full primate fashion. Will you rock a tamarin monkey’s stylish moustache, a marmoset’s fluffy ears, or don a lemurs’ racing stripes? Exhibition curator, Dr Andrew Kitchener, will join our judging panel to pick the best dressed primate.
Good to know
- Entrance to this event will be via the Main Entrance on Chambers Street.
- The event will take place both in the Auditorium on Level 1, and inside the Monkeys: Our Primate Family exhibition gallery on Level 3. The exhibition can be accessed via lift or escalator from the Collecting Stories gallery on Level 1.
- This event is suitable for our family audiences and is open to all ages. Please note, an adult only (18+) session will take place after this session, 20:00 - 22:00.
- Our exhibition shop will be open on the night.
Accessibility and facilities
We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit.
The event will take place both in the Auditorium on Level 1, and inside the 'Monkeys: Our Primate Family'exhibition on Level 3.
Getting to the exhibition gallery
Lifts are available to all floors of the museum. You can check the museum map or ask a member of staff for the nearest lifts.
There are escalators in the Collecting Stories gallery on Level 1 leading to the exhibition gallery on Level 3.

Toilets
There are toilets on all levels of the museum. Accessible toilets and baby changing facilities are available on most floors. There is a Changing Places (U) toilet in the Entrance Hall on Level 0.
You can access the museum map to find those nearest toilets or ask a member of our Visitor Experience team for directions.
Seating
Seating is available throughout the exhibition.
There are 4 wheelchair spaces at the front of the auditorium.
Large print labels
Large print labels are available in the exhibition.
Hearing induction loops
There is a hearing induction loop in the Auditorium.
