About Summer Family Fun: The Great Solar System Adventure

Join Cosmos Planetarium for an immersive show that takes you on a voyage around our Solar System exploring nearby planets.

Pull up a cushion and settle down for an awe-inspiring experience as the wonders of outer space surround you inside the intimate inflatable planetarium. 

The Great Solar System Adventure  

Embark on an exhilarating journey through our cosmic neighbourhood in The Great Solar System Adventure. From the blazing surface of the Sun to the icy frontiers beyond Neptune, encountering the planets, moons, asteroids, and comets that make our solar system so extraordinary. 

The show reveals the latest scientific discoveries, surprising planetary facts, and the mysteries that still inspire astronomers today. 

Good to know

  • Shows are around 30 minutes long. Please arrive 5 minutes before session start time.
  • Children under 16 must be accompanied by at least one adult over the age of 18 inside the planetarium. Accompanying adults must also have a ticket.
  • Seating is available nearby for those not attending performances.   
  • Cosmos planetarium is accessible for wheelchair users and backed seating is available for those with mobility issues.

Accessibility and facilities

We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit. 

How to get to the space

You can make your way to the Event Space by walking through the Collecting Stories gallery. Go up the staircase to Level 2 and the space will be on your right. 

There is also lift access via the lift next to the staircase. The dimensions of the lift are 137cm x 150cm (4ft 6in x 4ft 11in). 

The door to the Event Space is not automatic and cannot be opened by a push pad. During an event it may already be open or you can open it by pulling it towards you. 

Wheelchair access

There is significant space to use a wheelchair in the Event Space. 

You can borrow a wheelchair from the information desks at the Entrance Hall and Tower Entrance. They cannot be booked in advance. 

Seating

Seating in the Event Space is not fixed. 

Hearing induction loop

There is no induction loop in the Event Space. 

Toilets and baby changing

The nearest toilets are on Level 1 next to the Lothian Street Entrance and Auditorium. There are standard toilets and an accessible toilet. The baby changing table is located in the accessible toilet. 

If you require a changing places toilet, please ask a member of staff.
