Quern / rotary stone

Description

Rotary quern stone of micaceous schist, probably unfinished, with a lentoid profile, one face is irregular, with little sign of working apart from some flaking around the edges to thin it to the desired thickness, the upper surface is pecked into a low domed profile with a conical feeder pipe which flares onto the upper and lower surfaces, from Benbecula, Inverness-shire, c. 1800 - 1810
