Physical description

The matrix is engraved with a shield showing the lion rampant of the royal arms of Scotland, debruised with a bendlet to denote illegitimacy, within a fleur-de-lis border, and surrounded by the motto S.IACOBI.COMEDATARII.DE.CALCO.ET.MELROSE. The circular matrix has an integral flange handle to the reverse.
