Claës Giertta was highly regarded for his experimentation with precious metals. This necklace is unique and reminiscent of early Modernist jewellery from the 1940s.

Highly influential as a silversmith, sculptor and designer in Sweden, Claës Giertta (1926-2007) was largely unknown outside Scandinavia.
He trained at the University College of Arts, Crafts and Design in Stockholm, establishing his own workshop in 1957. Giertta’s jewellery designs are noted for their highly sculptural and textural relief, often employing varying constructions of geometric forms.

At the end of the Second World War, Design Councils across Scandinavia and Finland initiated measures to renew trade, nurture young talent and position their designers in all areas of decorative art, craft and design. Through a series of trade fairs the dominance of the Scandinavian design movement took hold, and became an international influence.
