About Family Day

Join us for a day of free pop-up performances and activities as we kick off the 2025 Edinburgh International Children’s Festival. 

The ever popular Family Day returns for 2025. Experience exciting pop-up performances and creative encounters with local artists. From theatre and dance to crafts and walk-about characters – there is something for the whole family to enjoy. 

The 2025 Edinburgh International Children’s Festival runs 24 May – 1 June in venues across Edinburgh. The Festival explores important themes in inspiring, joyful and accessible ways, pushing the boundaries of what to expect in children’s theatre and dance.

Accessibility and facilities

We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit.  

Museum entrances

There is level access to the museum via the Main Entrance to the Entrance Hall on Chambers Street.

Entering by the Tower Entrance at the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge avoids the busy Entrance Hall by the Main Entrance. It also provides levels access to the main part of the museum. 

Buggy storage

There is buggy storage available in the museum. It is located on Level 1 of the Scotland Galleries, behind the Kingdom of the Scots gallery.

Please take a look at our museum map or ask a member of the Visitor Experience team on arrival. 

Borrow a wheelchair

Wheelchairs are available for loan at no charge. Please note wheelchairs cannot be booked in advance. On arrival, ask about availability at the Information Desk. 

Small mobility scooters are permitted inside the museum.

Lifts

Lifts are available to all floors of the museum. 

Check the museum map for the nearest lifts. Our Visitor Experience staff are also available to give directions. 

Toilets and baby changing facilities

There are toilets on most levels of the museum, including accessible toilets and baby changing facilities. 

There is a Changing Places (U) toilet in the Entrance Hall on Level 0.
