Edinburgh Festival Fringe is Back at the National Museum of Scotland

Three fun-filled Friday nights of Fringe entertainment, the return of Gilded Balloon at the Museum, daily live pop-up music performances and this summer’s major music exhibition Rip it Up will feature in a lively, packed programme of Edinburgh Festival Fringe events at the National Museum of Scotland.
Following four years of sell-out success, the hugely popular Museum After Hours: Friday Fringe Takeover returns on Friday 10, 17 and 24 August for three exhilarating nights. Offering a unique taste of the festival, handpicked performers will come together to showcase highlights from their acts, against the backdrop of the National Museum of Scotland. From the Grand Gallery’s main stage to more intimate spaces across the Museum, guests can discover National Museums Scotland’s world class collections whilst embracing the festival atmosphere with music, comedy and more.
Guest programmed by The List, this adults-only extravaganza presents a different line-up each week with some of the best acts of the Edinburgh Festival Fringe all under one roof.
Artists and performers include; Ali McGregor, an award-winning cabaret sensation, performing jazz reworking’s and trash mash-ups; Newsrevue, a fast moving mix of comedy with sketches and songs propelling audiences through the world’s news and current events and Six, a comedy musical based on the six wives of Henry VIII who take to the mic to tell their empowering tale of 500 years of historical heartbreak.
In addition to live performances, Fringe-goers can strike a pose at a themed selfie studio, explore a range of hands-on activities around the Museum, and enjoy pop-up bars as well as access to this summer’s five-star exhibition, Rip It Up: The Story of Scottish Pop.
Festival favourite, Free Fringe Music, returns to the Museum to celebrate the launch of Rip It Up in partnership with Live Music Now Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University’s Popular Music Course and Edinburgh Gay Men’s Chorus. Some of Scotland’s best contemporary music talents will perform an exciting blend of Scottish pop, traditional Scottish songs and instrumental sets live every day during the festival. Fun for all the family, visitors can embrace the festival atmosphere in the Grand Gallery at 2:05pm, from 4–26 August.
Pop-Up Duets (fragments of love) returns to the Museum this August. Based around the theme of love, these site-specific dance performances from Janis Claxton Dance will pop up in the Grand Gallery with music composed by Pippa Murphy.
Fringe favourites, Gilded Balloon return to the Museum to present 27 days of inspiring and diverse programming, showcasing the very best in music, theatre and comedy featuring one of Scotland’s best loved stand-ups Fred MacAuley and Britain’s Got Talent’s Daliso Chaponda on his debut stand-up tour. There will also be outstanding children’s shows from Mark Thompson’s Spectacuar Science Show, and world team beat box champions and vocal supergroup, The Beatbox Collective.
