Red and pink print

This design was produced in two stages. The dark red and lighter pink were produced by the flat press process then overprinted by copper plate.

The dark red and lighter shade of pink were produced by the flat press process which, according to John F. Christie, one of key figures of the United Turkey Red Company, was a discharge process which produced the ‘two red’ effect where there are two shades of red (or pink) on one piece of cloth. The white dots and the motif of the lady holding out her skirts were then overprinted by copper plate. It is thought that this design was manufactured by Archibald Orr Ewing and Co.
