Discover our entomology collections at a behind the scenes tour of our state-of-the-art collections and research centre in Granton, Edinburgh.

Celebrate Insect Week with Entomology Curator Ashleigh Whiffin and learn more about National Museums Scotland’s fascinating insect collections.

Over one million species of insects have been described and named worldwide, so far. There are more than 24,000 species in the UK alone and we can find insects in almost every habitat. They can be pollinators, predators, pests, parasites and prey and studying them is an important part of food production, medicine, ecology and conservation.

Join Entomology Curator Ashleigh Whiffin to discover more about our collection of around 2.5 million insect specimens and find out what they’re used for.

This is an in-person tour at the National Museums Collection Centre, for those aged 14 and over. Advance booking essential.
