Join our volunteer guide to explore Scotland’s stories through highlight objects in our Scotland Galleries.
Our free public guided tours are for adult individuals, couples and small groups. Each tour is limited to a maximum of 12 people. Please sign up at the Information Desk in the Entrance Hall, Level 0, 20 minutes before the start of the tour to reserve your place.
Meet your volunteer guide ten minutes before the tour start time at the Guided Tour Meeting Point in the Entrance Hall, Level 0.
Visiting safely

Access
We want everyone who comes to our museums to enjoy their time with us and make the most of their visit.
- There is level access to the Museum via the main doors to the Entrance Hall on Chambers Street and the Tower entrance at the corner of Chambers Street and George IV Bridge.
- Lifts are available to all floors and accessible toilets are available on most floors, as well as a Changing Places (U) toilet in the Entrance Hall on Level 0.
- Guide dogs, hearing dogs and other recognised assistance dogs are admitted.
