Description

Silver commemorative baton of the 1986 Commonwealth Games held in Edinburgh, by Laings Ltd, Edinburgh, 1986, used to carry the official message of greeting from H.M. Queen Elizabeth II, sprinter Allan Wells carried the baton on its last leg of the journey in 1986 and was also the first person to carry the 2014 baton for the Glasgow games

Physical description

Sterling silver hallmarked in Edinburgh. Featuring a bespoke round cabochon-cut jasper stone from the Campsie Hills. The baton has a hidden twist opening to contain the Queen’s message to officially open the games. Finished with polished silver and silver-gilt.
