Fukusa

Description

Silk fukusa (gift cover) with a design in Yuzen resist dyeing and embroidery of two puppies beneath bamboo and holly in the snow, design is largely monochrome with gold embroidery embellishing the bamboo stem and leaves, berries in orange silk and gold mica applied on background, backed with orange-red silk with a roundel of an embroidered deer and bat: Japan, 1868-1900
