Hanging

Description

Linen canvas hanging formed of two bed valances, embroidered with coloured woollen threads with a verse from the 11th Passion Hymn of Hallgrímur Pétursson on the upper part. Formerly hung in the building at Thingvellir where the Althing parliament was held until 1798. Icelandic, 18th century, the lower part possibly late 17th century.
