Trained as a ceramicist, Eskolin-Nurmesniemi is most associated with textile design. From 1953, she worked for Finnish design company Marimekko, where she was responsible for many of their signature textile designs.
In 1964, she founded her own company, Vuokko Oy, noted for timeless, elegant designs and for patterns which move between austere geometric figures and dramatic, colourful and over-sized motifs.
