Join us for this exclusive Member event to learn more about one of the rarest Viking-age discoveries in Scotland.

In 1963 what started as an effort to bury a cow led to the rare discovery a cemetery of Pictish and Viking graves. 60 years on, this important site in Rousay continues to reveal more about the lives of the first generation of Scandinavian migrants to Orkney and the complexities of pagan Norse funerary rituals.

Join Dr Adrián Maldonado, Galloway Hoard Researcher at National Museums Scotland, and Professor James Graham-Campbell and Caroline Paterson, who are currently preparing a new book on the Westness Viking cemetery, to learn more about their latest findings.

Please note, this event will contain images and descriptions of archaeological human remains.

Following the presentations, there will be a live Q&A session.
